Launched in 1995 by the Christchurch City Council, 4YP runs events aimed at secondary school aged youth with a community development focus. Coordinated by Chris Martin of Sound Entertainment, his role is to consult with local young people and youth workers in order to design and implement events and projects.

 

In the beginning 4YP aimed to present 17 events annually. Every year since the project begun 4YP has surpassed this number. In 2006, 4YP is expected to run in excess of 75 events. 4YP assisted a number of community and youth organisations to run their own events also.

4YP is a shining example of how events can be used to promote community development and facilitate positive outcomes for youth.

 

Events and projects run by 4YP have included The Big Gig Out, Audio Overload, All Night Party, The Youth Cafe Project, MegaDance, Skate Jams, Mana In The Park...
